ESIT
ESIT offers information and referrals to assist families in accessing early intervention services for young children ages birth-3 years with possible developmental delays. ESIT is a division of the Department of Social and Health Services with the State of Washington, and provides the services outlined in Part C of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). ESIT provides early identification, multidisciplinary evaluation, and determination of eligibility for early intervention services at no cost to the family, including:Developmental screening
Screening is done by appointment in the home or at our offices, as well as at community screening fairs. A screening is a quick look at how a child is learning and growing. Screenings are done by people trained to determine how children are developing. If a child's development is a concern, staff will share information with families on how to get an evaluation for the child.
Evaluation
An evaluation looks at a child's development, with the child, family and early intervention professionals involved in the process together. Families have a choice in which early intervention agency will evaluate their child, and where the child will receive services if the child qualifies. Evaluations look at all areas of development:
- Cognitive - ability to learn and how a child learns
- Physical - ability to move, see, and hear
- Communication - ability to understand language and express needs
- Social or emotional - ability to relate with others
- Adaptive - ability to dress, eat, and participate in personal hygiene
Family Resource Coordination
The Family Resource Coordinator (FRC) supports families through the identification of needs and implementation of early intervention services through an Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP). The family, with the early intervention team, will write a plan for services based on the family's resources, priorities and concerns.
Clark County Interagency Coordinating Council (CCICC)
The CCICC is the advisory body to the local early intervention program. The CCICC focuses on making services easier for families to access and building community capacity for early intervention services.
